MESA
Mathematics - Engineering - Science - Achievement
MESA is a college and career preparation engine that propels student diversity and achievement in science, technology, engineering and math.
MESA provides a unique combination of enrichment activities, hands-on competitions, counseling, academic support, industry involvement and a supportive community environment to middle school, high school, community college and university students.
Wright Turn Glider Challenge : Students will design and construct a glider that, when launched by the official supplied launcher, flies through the air, makes a right turn, and lands on an “+” 12.2 meters (40 feet) from the launch area.
The Ultimate Disc Challenge : Design and build a lightweight and durable concrete disc meant to fly in the air. Students must develop and test various prototypes to determine the most efficient design to achieve flight and stay within project specifications. Students will achieve functionality and efficiency by considering structural design and aerodynamic principles.
Prosthetic Arm Challenge : Students will design, construct, and operate a simulated prosthetic arm that can grab, stack, and release plastic cups into a pyramid in the fastest time.
Civil Structures Challenge : Students will design and construct a model balsa wood bridge from their own plans that will carry a maximum load while using as little wood as possible, stressing neatness, craftsmanship, and creativity.
MESA Think Tank Challenge : Have you ever wanted to pitch a MESA Competition to MESA staff/judges? Here is your chance! We are looking for a team that has an innovative STEM Competition that can be piloted in the next MESA Day Competition.
